The first unified civil code has been passed and effects on 1 January 2021. The Civil Code supersedes the following former legislations:
- Marriage Law
- Succession Law
- General Principles of Civil Law
- Adoption Law
- Security Law
- Contract Law
- Real Right Law
- Tort Liability Law and
- General Provisions of Civil Law
This unified code is intended to regulate personal and propriety relationships among the persons of the civil law (Article 2 of the Code).
The Code was adopted at the Third Session of the Thirteenth National People’s Congress on 28 May 2020.
